Windows XP : Add/Delete Printer
For ALL Users

To Add a printer for all users of a Windows XP computer, including one that logs in through Active Directory.
  1. Log on as an administrator.
  2. Click the "Start" bar.
  3. In the menu box click "Printers & FAXs".
  4. Under "Printer Tasks" on the left click "Add a Printer".
  5. The "Add Printer Wizard" panel opens. Click "Next".
  6. Choose "Local printer attached to this computer".
  7. Click "Next".
  8. Click "Create a new Port".
  9. Choose "Standard TCP/IP Port" from the dropdown menu.
  10. Click "Next".
  11. You are now at "Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard".
    1. Read the note.
    2. Click "Next".
  12. On the next panel:
    1. Fill in the printer IP address.
    2. Give the port a reasonable name.
    3. Click "Next".
  13. Click "Finish" to complete the wizard.
  14. You are now at "Install Printer Software".
    1. Choose the Manufacturer and Printer, or at least the closest choice.
    2. Click "Next".
  15. At the next page you usually want to keep the same driver, if there was one.
    1. Click "Next".
  16. You are at "Name Your Printer".
    1. Choose a name that will be meaningful to users. Possibly involving the room number the computer is in.
    2. Choose whether this should be the default printer.
    3. Click "Next".
  17. You are at "Print Test Page".
    1. Choose "Yes" or "No".
    2. Click "Next".
  18. You are at "Completing the Add Printer Wizard".
    1. Click "Finish".
  19. Press "OK" or "Troubleshoot".
  20. The printer should now be added for all users of the computer, including Active Directory Logins.

To Delete a printer for all users of the computer.

  1. Log in as an administrator.
  2. Click "Printers and FAXs".
  3. Right-Click the printer you want to delete.
  4. Choose "Delete".
  5. Say you are sure: "Yes".
  6. The printer will disappear for the pane.
