  1. To be done by tech services.
    1. Under System Preferences/Sharing append the teacher number to "3861-TL-".
      Example" "3861-TL-42".
    2. Apply late updates or patches shown below:
      1. tbd
      2. tbd

  2. To be done by the teacher receiving the iBook:
    1. Restore any files that you need from your old computer to your new one using your backups.
    2. OPTIONALLY, to increase the security of your computer.
      1. Change the password for your account to something other than "teacher".
        1. Choose a good password that you can remember.
Example "Gh2Xc,bho1" (Girls have 2 X chromosomes, boys have only 1)
Don't use the example - think of something new!
        2. Open "System Preferences" under the Apple menu.
        3. Select "Accounts".
        4. Choose "Teacher Account.
        5. If the lock icon is locked, click it and enter your account name (teacher) and password (also teacher at this point).
        6. Click on the "Password" button at the top of the pane.
        7. Click the "Change Password" button.
        8. Enter your "Old Password", your "New password", and your new password again under "Verify".
        9. Enter a hint if you must, but don't make it obvious. "Biology" might be a good hint for the above.
        10. Click the "Change Password" button.
      2. Remove "Autologin" so someone can't access your account just by starting up the computer.
        1. In "System Preferences" click "Login Options".
        2. Uncheck the "Automatically log in as: button.
        3. If you want, change "Display login window as:" to "List of Users".
This adds another level to the guessing game hackers have to play.
    3. CAB
If you want to avoid typing your ID every time you use CAB, do the following:
      1. Open CAB.
      2. In the login panel, click on "Advanced" on the lower left.
      3. Click the "Setup" button on the right.
      4. Enter your "P000#####" ID in the "UserID" field.
      5. DO NOT ENTER YOUR PASSWORD IN THE "Password" BOX
      6. Click the blue "Save" button at the bottom right of the panel.
      7. Be sure the "Login as Registered User" button is still clicked.
      8. Click the "Advanced" button again to go back to just the login panel.
    4. Microsoft Office
      1. You may want to save files in the old (.doc, .dot, .xls, .ppt) format instead of the new (.docx, .dotx, .xlsx, .pptx) formats if you want to send them to people who have old versions of Office. To do this, go to "Preferences" in each application (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and under "Save" choose the older format. Its best not to do this unless you know you will need to use the old format.
      2. You may want to change the generic information in the User info that goes with each document. To do this go to "Preferences" in Word and choose "User Information". Then change the generic information there to what you want. Remember that anyone receiving any document you have authored can see this information. So you may or may not want to leave it generic.
    5. Printers
If you want to add a network-connected printer here at Coral Glades, do the following:
Enjoy your "new" computer.
