Instructions for Installing the BCPS Root Certificate on Your Mac.

↑ ↓ Preliminaries:
This is the procedure for Mac computers only.

Before beginning, make sure that you have access to servicedesk and the necessary administrative account and password for the Mac.

↑ ↓ Step 1:
To begin the installation you must retrieve the certificate from servicedesk. To begin this process start from the Finder "Go" menu and select "Connect to Server", the bottom item.

When prompted, type in "smb://servicedesk" as the server to which you are connecting.
A dialog box asking for your personal credentials will appear. Fill in your Adctive Directory ID and Password, then press "Connect".

Select "OSX" as the volume to which you wish to connect.

You will find a folder near the bottom titled "Web Browsers and Plugins". Inside this is a file titled "fa_import.p7b". This is the certificate file.

Drag the "fa_import.p7b" file to the desktop so that you have a local copy.
You can then close the connection to the "servicedesk" server.

Open a finder window and navigate to "Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access".
Double-click "Keychain Access" to launch the Application.

Select the System keychain in the upper-left panel. Installing the certificate in the "System" keychain will allow it to be available to all users.
The system keychain is locked so you will have to open it. Do this by clicking on the "Click to unlock the System keychain" lock icon at the very top left of the panel.

A dialog box will appear asking for your administrative account Mac credentials.
Fill this in, then press the "Modify Keychain" button.

The icon at the very top left will now indicate that the "System" keychain is open. From the "File" menu select "Import Items".

A panel appears inviting you to select the item to import into the "System" keychain.
Navigate to and select the "fa_import.p7b" certificate bundle file you saved from servicedesk.
Click "Open".

Another dialog box will ask for your administrative Mac user credentials.
Fill in your Mac administrative User ID and Password, then press "Modify Keychain".

You will now see the "fa.browardschools.com" certificate in the list, but it will have an "X" on its image, and in the top panel there is a statement in red saying "This root certificate is not trusted". This is because it is self-certified by browardschools.com, rather than an accredited certificate issuer.
We will fix this in the next few steps.

Right click, or CTRL-Click on the "fa.browardschools.com" certificate and select "Get Info" from the resulting menu.

A box will appear titled "fa.browardschools.com". Clicking open the "Trust" triangle will reveal a number of select items.
The topmost select is captioned "When using this certificate:". Choose "Always Trust from the select. Nothing else needs to change.

Another menu will pop up again asking for your administrative Mac credentials.
Provide this information and click the "Update Settings" button.

When the credentials menu disappears, the "fa.browardschools.com" certificate will have a blue plus mark on it in the list. It will also appear in the top of the window with a blue cross and a message:
"This certificate is marked as trusted for all users."
